The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a religious formation program developed to nurture the child’s relationship with God. The format, inspired by the Montessori method, is simple. The catechist gathers with the children in small groups in a beautiful environment containing interactive materials representing the Bible and the Church’s liturgy. This room, especially prepared for the children, is called the “atrium.” Here a catechist presents key scripture passages and parts of the Church’s liturgy to the children. More information is available on the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd page.
Sunday School is held during the 9:00 and 10:45 Masses in the educational center at Pax Christi Church. Children must be three, four or five years old (Kindergarten age) to participate in this program. Sunday School provides age appropriate faith formation guided by biblical faith and the teachings of the Catholic Church. These classes are held in a traditional classroom setting. The Sunday School program incorporates a variety of ways for children to grow in their faith including; bible based curriculum, activities that reflect the liturgical season of the year, prayer, music and singing programs. The children participate in small and large group activities. The Sunday School program runs mid-September through mid-May. Each year the students perform a concert in December and May. You may register anytime by contacting Debbie Ramirez 282-8542 or debbie.ramirez.@paxchristichurch.org
Liturgy of the Word for Children is a celebration of each Sunday's Gospel to help young children understand the Word of God. Children's Liturgy of the Word is open to children ages 3 through Grade 2, at the 5:15 pm Saturday Mass. The Liturgy of the Word is a time when children go with a leader to a classroom and participate in the scripture readings. The readings are explored with a homily at their level. The children leave the Mass before the readings and return after the homily. This way, they are able to participate in the rest of the Mass. Children receive a worksheet pertaining to the readings of the week. To volunteer for this Ministry, please call Debbie Ramirez 282-8542 or debbie.ramirez.@paxchristichurch.
